Special Education Muckraker was born out of a relentless drive to expose the cracks in a system that too often fails those who need it most. In 2017, a former school nurse and advocate for children with disabilities launched this platform after watching their own child’s health needs be dismissed by a school district that prioritized paperwork over care. The frustration was not just personal—it was systemic. Years of navigating bureaucratic silence, unaddressed medical neglect, and a culture of secrecy in special education led to a singular question: What if the truth could be uncovered, shared, and used to hold institutions accountable? This site was the answer.

Our mission is to investigate and illuminate health and disability rights violations that school boards bury under layers of red tape. We dig into unreported cases of medication errors, denied therapies, and inaccessible facilities—stories that rarely see the light of day. By amplifying the voices of parents, students, and professionals who have been ignored, we challenge a culture of complacency and demand transparency. Every article, report, and resource we publish is rooted in one belief: no child’s health should be a bargaining chip in a broken system. We fight for justice by turning silence into evidence, and evidence into change.

Our vision extends beyond exposure—we aim to empower. Special Education Muckraker provides tools, legal insights, and real-world examples to help advocates navigate the labyrinth of special education policy. We believe in a future where school systems are held to the highest standards of care, where health is not a privilege but a right, and where accountability is the norm, not the exception. This work is urgent, unflinching, and driven by those who have felt the weight of institutional failure.
