How Bongs Are Made
Before you read the article, you should note that there are two types of bongs: glass and acrylic. Acrylic bongs are cheaper than glass ones because they don’t have to be made from scratch. However, when it comes to cleaning them, acrylic bongs require a little more effort. It is also easier for them to break, but if a person threw a glass bongs for sale at your head with the same amount of force as an acrylic one, chances are your skull would survive whereas the bong wouldn’t. If you’re going to smoke out of a glass piece regardless, then go with that one for sure!
Glass-made bongs usually arrive in pieces where all you have to do is slide it together and use an adhesive to seal any gaps.
Regardless of the type, bongs are made by heating glass in a furnace at extremely high temperatures and then working it with different tools until you have the desired shape.
The most important parts of every bong are the downstem and slide, where smoke travels through water for filtration before reaching your mouth. There is also another piece called an ash catcher…which is nice if you want to catch any ashes that fall off your bowl pieces when smoking!
Bongs can be made nearly any size or shape imaginable–there are many artistic designs available that often reflect the personality of their creator. A “beaker” style base is one of my favorites because it allows for more volume per hit , but I have friends who love the novelty of having a bong shaped like an alien.

“How Bongs Work”
Bongs work on the same principle as any other water pipe, with three key components that work together to produce smoke that is filtered through water before being inhaled by the smoker. The main piece in every bong is called a downstem . A downstem usually consists of two glass joints–the lower joint where the bowl sits and the upper one which attaches to the slide or carb . These are threaded so you can connect them easily, but they will not come apart unless you force them off. If your downstem has had too many falls onto concrete , it may be difficult to connect certain pieces or get a good seal.

The big hole in the middle of a normal downstem is called an arm . In most bongs, this acts as a spot where you can load your bowl piece and light it from below without burning yourself on hot glass. However, some arms have been designed to also hold ice at the bottom–just remember that whatever you put in there must be able to withstand high temperatures!
The second important piece in a bong is the bowl . Bowls are usually made out of glass, ceramic , or titanium , but can also be an expensive quartz called a honey bucket . The size of your bowl determines how many hits you can get from one load.
Glass-made bongs usually arrive in pieces where all you have to do is slide it together and use an adhesive to seal any gaps. Sometimes, however, people drop their water pipe on cement because they’re idiots. This inevitably leads to cracks in the joint and ruins the flow of smoke by making everything stick together. Do not let this happen to you! …But if it does, check out my article on how to fix common devices that won’t fire right
